Kappalady
Kalpitya, Srilanka
Kappalady is a small authentic community of the Kalpitiya province. About 160 km north of Colombo (about 2 hrs drive by car), Kappalady is situated near the Puttalam lagoon with its calm, flat, shallow waters and consistent wind making it a kiteboarder’s paradise. That is not all this village has to offer. A 1.5hr drive about 120 km to the east will take you to the beautiful ancient capital of Sri Lanka – Anuradhapura, now a UNESCO Heritage famous for its well-preserved ruins. If you are in the mood to be transported into the Sri Lankan wildlife an hour drive to the north will get you to the Willpatu National Park where you could spot some cheetahs, elephants and several species of birds.
In Kappalady, Muslims, Christians and Buddhists live harmoniously with each other and the village has never witnessed any social or political conflicts. A cycle ride/ drive through the village will transport you in time through the friendly waves and smiles of the beautiful people of Kappalady and their green land.
